On-device narration for iPhone

Your books. Out loud. Offline.

Oratio turns EPUB books into natural narration on your iPhone. No uploads. No signal needed once your voice is downloaded.

60-second tour · 4 voices Recorded from the app, not a mock-up

Welcome to Oratio. The voice you’re hearing now already lives on your phone — no download, no setup, no subscription.

Every book you bring here can speak from the very first second. But this is only where we begin.

02Three ways to read

One page. Three ways to read it.

Follow along, focus on one passage, or let the words come to you one at a time. The voice keeps going through all three.

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.

“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”

He didn’t say any more, but we’ve always been unusually communicative in a reserved way, and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that.

06The fine print

Questions, answered.

01 Does Oratio send my books to the cloud?

No. Speech generation happens on the device, so a book does not need to be uploaded to a third-party voice service.

02 Does everything work offline?

Reading and on-device narration work offline after the book and voice model are on your phone. Browsing the catalog and downloading books or models still need a connection.

03 What book formats are supported?

EPUB. Oratio reads the EPUB files you import and the free books in its catalog.

04 Where do the free books come from?

Oratio’s catalog indexes public-domain books from Project Gutenberg. Book files are downloaded directly from Gutenberg.

05 Which voices can I use?

Oratio supports Apple’s built-in speech and downloadable on-device voice experiences powered by models such as Kokoro, Pocket TTS, and Supertonic.

06 When can I download Oratio?

Soon. Oratio is not out yet. It is coming to the App Store for iPhone, and this page will link to it when it is available.

Take your books somewhere quiet.

This is Oratio. Bring your own books. Choose your voice. Read however you like — aloud, focused, or fast. Whenever you’re ready, let’s begin.
